In reports to the board, it was announced that middle school students will participate in ACUITY testing in the near future. Principal Kay Beasey is exploring the opportunity to have students take the ISTEP online this spring. Also at the middle school, Mr. Dickensheets and Mrs. Amsler are conducting an exercise program for students during lunchtime. Mrs. Beasey, Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Gainor recently held an orientation session for eighth grade students entering high school next year
The board was informed that Saint Josephs College will soon present financial aid information to college bound students and their parents.
Elementary principal Tony Brose mentioned that the elementary Christmas Program will be held on Monday. He also reported the fourth grade class has been selected to participate in a nationwide assessment.
The board accepted the resignation of Jonelle Carns from the Cooperative School Services.
The board hired Marcella Berenda to teach during Kasey Lowry’s maternity leave. Kenin Smith was employed as related service counselor for Cooperative School Services. Certified staff contracts were also approved for Cooperative School Services.
Approval was given to adjust Sandy Saltsman’s bus driving contract to a half-time contract.
The board approved the field trip request from Hallie Haring and members of FFA to travel to Bedford North Lawrence High School.
Conference requests were approved for Brian Pilarski to attend the National Sports Clinics in Chicago and Bill Amsler to attend the Ascend Illustrator Training in Chicago and Deerfield, IL.
Letters of thanks were shared with the board. Mrs. Schlatter thanked Family Express for discounting the donuts; Darrell Allen, representing the American Legion, for providing tablecloths and small American Flags; Christina and Heather Davis for decorating and cleanup during the “Donuts with Dad” activity in December. The American Red Cross thanked Mr. Street, Mrs. Metzger and the community for the coordination and participation during the recent blood drive.
The next board meeting will be Feb. 3, beginning with a work session at 1:30 p.m.
