The scholarship will provide support for students who are in good standing at his/her school, demonstrate financial need, and show creative writing potential.
Don Chapman was born in Winamac in 1939 to Ray and Rita Chapman. He was a graduate of Winamac High School and Indiana University. He became a CPA, married Harriet Eldridge, and together they raised five children. From 2000 until his death in 2006, he worked for homestarrunner.com, a company his son established. During his career he was employed by Crawford and Co., PR Mallory, Mobile Drilling and Peat Marwick Mitchell. His passion throughout his life was in creative writing and literature. After retirement he took classes in literature, creative writing, and filmmaking.
Though Chapman lived most of his life in Indianapolis and Atlanta, Ga., he loved returning to Winamac. He was researching to write stories about his hometown at the time of his death.
