Alliance Bank president Terry Stevens leads the Junior Board of Directors on a tour of the bank at their orientation Wednesday (Oct. 21). |
Through an application and teacher recommendation process, two juniors and two seniors have been selected from each of these high schools - West Central, Winamac, North White and Twin Lakes with future plans for a secondary board serving Benton and Jasper counties.
Students serve a two-year term where present-day juniors will be the following year's seniors. There are five officer positions held by the seniors - chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer and marketing. Those not holding an officer position are required to serve on one of two committees - the Community Service Committee, where they discuss and propose their service projects, and the Annual Meeting Committee, where they plan for their annual year-end recap and celebration.
The Junior Board of Directors will participate in monthly meetings at local businesses and not-for- profit locations. The students will gain hands-on experience in conducting business meetings and will be exposed to a wide range of employment opportunities in Pulaski and White counties through high-profile speakers from various professions. To develop a greater community consciousness, the students will be required to conduct two service projects, one within each county.
Students are also able to give up to $1,000 to charitable organizations in the two counties by earning $15 for each volunteer hour they serve. How they allocate those funds are proposed by the committee and voted on by the board.
The Annual Meeting is a celebration that brings the students and their families together with community leaders, high school administrators and our bank leaders to allow them to showcase and highlight their experiences over the past year.
Alliance Bank was the first stop on their local business tours. The 16 board members were at the Francesville Office for orientation and a tour Wednesday (Oct. 21). Bank president Terry Stevens led the student tour.
“It was really great having the students here," Stevens said. "I thought the day went great and (we) look forward to outstanding things from this group of young leaders and what they’ll accomplish with this program.”
