The fire, which began about 8:25 a.m., was ruled accidental Friday by the Indiana State Fire Marshal's office. It was determined the blaze began in the kitchen area of the facility, and was possibly sparked by an electrical problem.
A spokesperson for the Eagles reported help came from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, Winamac Fire and Rescue, Star Ciry Fire, Bass Lake Fire, Knox Fire, Monterey Fire & Rescue Team, Pulaski County React, and Winamac EMS. Another report said Francesville firefighters were also at the scene.
Emergency crews worked in the afternoon to remove the roof from the facility in order to get inside and control "hotspots."
Heather Hulmes, who administers the Eagles Facebook page said, "There were a lot of wonderful memories, friendships, benefits, birthday parties, graduations, funeral dinners, fundraisers, bands and good times had by a great many people over the years here including myself (at the Eagles. The building was constructed in 1947 by Charles Hein."
Hulmes said community organization have already offered their help and support.
