In other business, Dana Wannemacher from Barton-Coe-Vilamaa presented the board with information concerning the upcoming track project. The common wage hearing will be held on Dec. 1. A variety of different alternative bids were discussed.
The board passed a motion to approve the course description book changes for the 2011-12 school year, as presented.
Mellon informed the board that the State Board of Accounts is currently performing the audit for the corporation. This event takes place every two years.
Bus purchase information was shared with the board. Moving from two-way radio broadband to narrow band was discussed. Minutes from the wind turbine Technical Review Committee were shared.
The school board also discussed corporation policy on commencement participation..
The agenda for the Professional Relations Committee meeting held on Wednesday was shared with the board.
Elementary principal Tony Brose thanked Mrs. Bergens for conducting a very successful book fair. Total sales equaled $9,427 from which the school profit was $4,713. Mrs. Bergens thanked Mrs. Hart and Mrs. DeMoss, and the many volunteers for their assistance. Brose also reported to the board that five elementary students will travel to North Judson to participate in the Spell Bowl. A Veterans Day program was held at the elementary on Thursday evening.
Middle school principal Kay Beasey congratulated the Ecology Club and Mrs. Chesser for being one of three schools recognized in the state. A small group of students will travel to Indianapolis to receive a cash prize. She added that the middle school took part in the Veterans Day program in the high school gym on Thursday.
High school principal Don Street thanked the Student Council for hosting the many community veterans and presenting them with a “very nice” program and lunch. He reported the basketball team will hold a pancake-and-sausage breakfast on Nov. 20 in the high school cafeteria. Teacher/Parent Conferences will be held on Dec. 2.
The school board approved the resignations of cafeteria employee Jodi Feuquay, and Cooperative School Services employee Denise Webb. A maternity leave request was approved for Kasey Lowry. Ryan Wolfe was approved as eighth grade boys basketball coach. Marcella Berenda was employed to fill Kellis Gutwein’s maternity leave.
