The public will take “ownership” of these beds and in turn, Extension educators will use the food that is grown to do future lessons. By providing participants with the knowledge learned, they will be prepared to lead a healthier lifestyle, as well as develop basic cooking and food preparation skills.
These gardens will be utilized in partnership with the Family Nutrition Program, the Master Gardeners, the Extension Homemakers, 4-H Junior Leaders, the 4-H program, agricultural programming and Healthy Living Programs. Any extra food will be donated to the local food pantry and the Senior Centers.
The garden beds were constructed with the volunteer effort of the Winamac Boy Scout Venture group and local volunteers.
The garden beds are located in Winamac behind the County Building. Interested persons are welcome to check them out, or call the Extension Office to help in maintaining these garden beds. Volunteers are always welcome.
