“The page program is an excellent way to see firsthand how the legislative process works, meet local lawmakers and get a behind-the-scenes perspective of how bills become laws,” said Rep. Gutwein. “It was great to spend the day with students from our community, and I commend them for taking an interest in state government at such a young age. I know this experience had a positive impact on their lives as well as my own.”
On session days, pages experience how a bill becomes a law as they watch legislators on the House floor debate issues. Students also have the chance to tour the Statehouse, see where the governor works and observe floor sessions of the House, Senate and Supreme Court chambers.
Local students who have served as pages this legislative session include Brandon Putt, Luke Neihouser, Rodney Pelsy, Alan Kaeb, Thomas Putt and Brock Huber.
The Indiana House Page Program is an educational way for students to gain a better understanding of the lawmaking process by meeting their State Representative and witnessing how laws are made firsthand. It is an exciting experience that comes highly recommended.
