Every year each of the 92 counties throughout Indiana have the opportunity to select a Friends of Extension Award recipient to honor on a local level. The recipient is selected based upon community service to the Extension program and his/her outstanding leadership. Upon being honored locally, the honorees' applications are sent to the IEEA state organization that then selects three individuals throughout the state to honor for their contributions. Calloway will be honored at the annual IEEA conference at Purdue University on Nov. 10 where Chuck Hibberd, the State Extension director, will present her the award.
Carolyn Hildebrandt, County Extension director, says, “It was a pleasure to nominate such a dedicated volunteer for this award. Theresa never fails to surprise us with her willingness to work and her kind spirit throughout the year. We want all our volunteers to know we appreciate their hard work and dedication to the mission of Extension. We are especially proud this year that the state officers of IEEA have selected one of Pulaski’s own for this award.”
Calloway has contributed 20 years of volunteer work to the Pulaski County Extension program and has served as the president of the Pulaski County Fair Board for six years. Under her leadership, new fairground buildings have been constructed or old ones updated. After the flooding of the fairgrounds, she led the clean-up and updating of the Community Building. She oversees the management of the county fairgrounds throughout the year.
“I am very humbled by this award,” said Calloway. “I really feel that it takes a lot of dedicated volunteers to make the county fair happen, maintain the buildings and care for the Community Building.”
It has been estimated that Calloway has donated close to 10,000 hours of volunteer work during her 20 years as a volunteer for Pulaski County Extension.
Calloway and her husband Don have three children, Evan, Austin and Kirstin. Calloway is employed at Key Bank of Winamac as the branch manager.
