A number of years later, Julie became very involved in the Extension Homemaker program here in Pulaski County. She was given the opportunity to conduct meetings and make announcements. First, she began with a small group of homemakers, but her leadership role started to further develop into something much more.
Julie became the president of her homemakers club and it was at the Extension Home and Family Conference that one speaker made a powerful statement. The speaker told the audience they had been chosen by their peers who saw the leadership in the audience delegates that they may not see in themselves.
Julie then signed-up and completed a speech class through Ivy Tech where she had to give a speech every week. She admits being a little nervous each time but the experiences she had through the Extension Homemakers and other Extension opportunities helped her build confidence as a speaker.
“I want all the kids and adults to know that without Extension, I would not be such an active part of the volunteer community,” said Julie. “This is how Extension has impacted my life.”
Julie has served as president of her homemaker club for many years, and as county Homemaker Council President. She has served on both the Extension Board and 4-H Council.
Purdue Extension of Pulaski County offers a wide range of programs from healthy eating, to providing leadership to the 4-H program and offering pesticide applicator classes (to name a few). There are also countless volunteer opportunities within all of our programs.
