Following a luncheon, employees shared stories from their earliest years of employment and reflected upon the growth of the company over the past 40 years.
“This was truly Ralph’s vision, to meet once a year like this,” said Cyndi Garnett, vice president of Human Resources. “Even though Ralph is no longer with us, no one is better equipped to carry on his legacy than those who shared so many years with him.”
Two of Ralph’s children, Todd Braun and Melissa Dennis, were present to echo their father’s faith in the employees of his hometown and surrounding areas, and they reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the local community.
A perpetual plaque listing the names of the 25+ year employees was unveiled and will be added to at the annual event in years to come. Previous retirees who had served 25 or more years will also be added to the plaque.
Members of the Quarter Century Club were also present for the dedication of a memorial to founder Ralph Braun. Named simply as Ralph’s Rock, the memorial is positioned at the front entrance of the office headquarters.
“Each day when we walk in to work or when we welcome a visitor to our company, we are constantly reminded of his presence,” said president and CEO Nick Gutwein.
The limestone rock comes from the property of Mike McClure, a dear friend throughout Ralph’s life. Displayed on the face of the rock is a bronze plaque that was dedicated to Ralph earlier this year by a dealer association recognizing him as a pioneer of the mobility industry.
“This rock is symbolic of Ralph’s impact on this company and this community,” said Gutwein. “It’s immovable, it’s steadfast and it’s a fundamental element of who we are.” In addition to the rock memorial, a White Oak tree, symbolizing strength and endurance, was planted in front of the corporate headquarters.
Ralph Braun founded The Braun Corporation in 1972 and grew his company to become the world’s leading manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vehicles and wheelchair lifts. The company employs over 850 and is still headquartered in Ralph’s hometown of Winamac. Braun passed away in February of 2013 at the age of 72.
