The maps of the proposed routes are now available on the Maps page of the NIPSCO website.
The open houses were held recently in Shipshewanna, Nappanee and Plymouth, Winamac and Monticello. Project team members were available to answer questions and provide additional information about the project.
Landowners who have property within 1,000 feet of the proposed project routes, should have received a letter from NIPSCO within the past month. NIPSCO expects to select the final route in August.

According to NIPSCO, the Reynolds-Topeka Electric System Improvement Project is a six-year project that will strengthen Indiana’s electric system and provide improved access to wind and solar renewable energy sources through the construction of a new 100 mile electrical transmission line that will connect NIPSCO’s Reynolds substation (in Reynolds, IN), Burr Oak substation (in Burr Oak, IN) and Hiple Substation (near Topeka, IN).
The project is currently in the "Routing Phase," which means NIPSCO is developing a set of potential routes to take to the public and local communities in order to get input for the final route selection. Public input is a critical component of this project and NIPSCO says it is committed to keeping the public informed throughout the project.
Benefits
The Reynolds-Topeka line will provide a direct benefit to customers, the local economy, and the environment by:
- Creating new jobs and business for local suppliers
- Increasing property taxes paid to local governments by NIPSCO
- Improving the overall reliability of our electric system
- Providing anticipated cost savings to customers from access to lower cost energy
- Improving access to wind and solar renewable energy sources that reduce greenhouse gases
