Also at the meeting, Stephanie Watts was approved for the open high school math teaching position. Mrs. Watts has experience from two different school corporations – Caston and Frontier. The board was told she has taught a variety of high school classes but more algebra than any other single course, and algebra is the school’s area of need at this time.
Under report items, it was announced that Andrea DePoy is this year’s recipient of the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation School Board Scholarship. Seniors Brandon Dickson and Skyler Harper were selected as the first and second alternates, respectively.
Dr. Klitzman reported on the following:
- Karen Pence, Indiana’s First Lady, visited Eastern Pulaski Elementary School the end of May, touring the building, stopping in several classrooms and talking with students.
- Bus Inspection on May 20, went well. All buses passed except one, only having minor issues (that bus was re-inspected and passed). Mr. DeLorenzo and Mr. Lawson were commended.
- After a study, the corporation’s Special Education Co-op, is moving toward a modified decentralization concept, in which all teachers and instructional assistants will be employed by each member school instead of Logansport Schools, the current format. There will be a year transition and, and the change will ultimately cost more money.
- PPACA (ObamaCare) is set the take effect in January. The basics of PPACA is that all employees should have affordable insurance and all employees working 30 hours or more are eligible for coverage - coaches, part-time individuals, etc. Employees do not have to take coverage, but it has to be offered. This is a very complex issue.
- Graduation went well. Students were exceptionally courteous and respectful during the entire ceremony.
- The Employee Appreciation Breakfast was held June 3. A fitting end to the school year with retiring individuals being recognized - Dr. Klitzman, Larry Link, Jan Moore, Brad Moore, and Dave Ralstin.
- Summer Projects are continuing with the changeover to digital controls from pneumatic in the High School. The MASE Clinic Room is almost completed. Routine repairs and deep cleaning are also taking place.
- Summer School Classes and camps continue throughout the summer.
Dr. Klitzman gave a financial report for the period ending May 31. The Condition of Funds Statement indicated that all funds had positive balances, with one month left in the fiscal year. The General Fund Comparison Statement indicated that 18% of the yearly appropriation remained. Claims were discussed and approved as presented.
Dairy and Bakery Bidswere accepted through the school’s cooperative service center (NIESC) again this year. This not only saves the cost of advertising, it pools several schools together, resulting in better prices. The lowest and best bids were provided by Schenkel’s for dairy and Aunt Millie’s for bakery products.

Board Comment: The 2013 graduates, Mr. Slaven for coordinating the 8th Grade trip to Washington, D.C., and Mr. DeLorenzo and Mr. Lawson for coordinating the bus inspection were all commended.
