Haschel and Bailey (266th) both earned "Top 500" medals which were presented to the first 500 finishers.
Rounding out the Top 10 from Winamac were Joel Grisel, Braden Tankersley, Randy Fox, Danielle Hilton, Dagny Zupin, Jeanene Calabrese, Rick Grisel and Kevin Leszcynski.
A total of 36 runners from Winamac participated in the Mini. Also competing were Bryce Kappes, Sara Bailey, Tim Murray, John Plowman, Brandi Ringen, Tasha Mitchell, Mike O'Connor, Tina Pesarisi, MacKenzie Howard, Elaine Haschel, Lindsey Fox, Cathy Defries, Sarah Beck, John Alexander, Blake Bailey, Patrick Goodman, Danyell Bailey, Melissa Bailey, Dawn Bailey, Becky Kopka, Alexis Calabrese, Carol Blastic, Mark MacKilliop, Melanie Berger, Jennifer Goodman and Timothy Redlin.
Thirteen runners from Francesville also participated in the mini-marathon. They were Lexi Gudeman, Chad French, Paul Keller, Douglas Leman, Emily Boehning, Nick Franiak, Meleita Street, Sarah Franiak, Darlene Tanner, Rae French, Timothy Troxel, Don Street and Becky Gudeman.
Participating from Star City were Tabatha Halleck, Aaron Campbell, Taylor White, Julia Foster and Michelle Browning. Kim Gilbert of Medaryville completed the Mini, as did Tori Shank of Monterey. Runners from Kewanna were Kaylyn Herrold, Emilee Albright, Jennifer Herrold and Nancye Herrold.
Three Winamac runners participated in the Indy 500 5K race. They were Benjamin Watts, Chad Watts and Lorrin Alexander. Also running in the event were Darlene Daily of Star City and Kamrein Street of Francesville.
The Nation's Largest Half-Marathon
Alene Reta was the winner in the men's division of the Indy 500 Mini-Marathon, finishing with a time of 1:03:58. Sarah Kiptoo took first place in the women's division, with a winning time of 1:12:26.
The OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon is the nation’s largest half-marathon, having sold out with 35,000 participants for the past 11 years. This 500 Festival tradition commenced May 4 and marked the 37th running of the race. Within its 37-year history, many stories have emerged around the excitement. From United States Olympian marathon runners, the arrival of international runners, to the family traditions, the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon provides competition and camaraderie.
The course for the Mini-Marathon begins near the intersection of Washington and West streets, heads west toward the Indianapolis Motor Speedway along Michigan Street and does a complete lap around the 2.5 mile track before heading back down New York Street to the finish line.
