He was also a key volunteer in supportive organizations like the Pulaski County Community Foundation, Four County Counseling Center, Pulaski County Public Library, and Bethel Bible Church.
Baker was a mentor and encourager, and regularly helped out beyond the call of duty.
A farmer most of his life, Baker helped establish the watershed protection plan in the Lake Bruce watershed district. Co-founder of the Pulaski County Recycling project, he also helped found the first Federal Credit Union for local teachers. Members of numerous community service programs and church organizations will recall his always willing and enthusiastic attitude.
After Baker passed away late in 2011, his wife Sue wanted to find a way to honor Paul’s memory and share with the community he loved. She realized her goal through the establishment of the Paul Baker Memorial Scholarship in the Pulaski County Community Foundation. Mrs. Baker knew he believed in the Community Foundation, and that the scholarship fund would preserve his legacy and benefit the community at the same time.
The scholarship will financially assist Winamac Community High School graduates who will major in science or education. When it becomes available and is awarded, it will be renewable throughout the student’s college years.
Tribute gifts of any amount may be made at any time to enhance the scholarship’s impact. All gifts are tax deductible and may be sent to PCCF, P.O. Box 407, Winamac, or online through the Community Foundation website.
