Halleck Award: The 2013 Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Halleck Award was presented to David Barr at the Chamber's annual dinner/meeting Friday night (March 8). Barr and his wife Virginia are shown with their three children, Craig (Pam) Barr, Randy [Debbie) Barr, and Chris (Mike) Gilman; and two of their granddaughters.

Barr is the 31st recipient of the award which was first presented by the Chamber in 1979 to its namesake, the late Dr. Harold J. Halleck. Last year's recipient was Thomas Murray.

Barr was the longtime owner-operator of the Winamac Cleaning Works and Laundry (also once known as Snow White Laundry, Inc.), a family business originally operated by his father, Wallace D. Barr. His mother was school teacher Clara Dilts Barr.

Barr was chief of the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for 11 years, and serving the department for 40 years. He is a past president of the Chamber of Commerce, the Eastern Pulaski Community School Board, and the Winamac Kiwanis Club. He has been active with the Boy Scouts and the former Winamac Jaycees. He has also been active in his church, Bethel Bible Church.

Barr and his wife, Virgina Olson Barr, were married in 1951 and have three children, Randall, Christine (Gilman) and Craig. They also have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Chamber's annual dinner meeting also recognizes an "Organization of the Year." This year's recipient was Goble Heal Chiropractic of Winamac.

Brad Conn is the newly-elected Chamber president.
