In related business, the board was told the most summer projects are complete. The new Health Occupations room is ready to be occupied. The replacement of the heating and cooling controls in the elementary school is yet to be completed. Most of the equipment has been installed and is functional, but the controls need to be connected to the controlling computer.
The board approved a resolution to reduce the 2010 appropriations in the amount of $916,560, due to the May federal stabilization payment of $116,560 placed in Fund 7950 which will be expended from that fund overstating the general fund appropriations. The remaining $800,000 will be taken from the 2010 appropriations to try to assure adequate appropriations in the 2011 budget.
The board gave approval to advertise the 2011 school budget, capital projects plan and the bus replacement plan. Board members had held a work session before their meeting to go over the plans.
Supt. Charles Mellon reported that the assessed value of property in the West Central Schools district has increased by $7 million. The certified assessed value is $286,745,083.
The board approved the contracts for the schools’ instructional assistants, cafeteria employees, bus drivers and Cooperative School Services classified staff for the 2010-11 school year, as presented. These contracts are status quo with no increased in salary.
The board approved the resignations of custodian Mandy Polley, eighth-grade boys basketball coach Don Street, Title I instructional assistant Alisia Kilgus, and seventh-grade girls basketball coach Kevin Wenzel.
The board voted to employ Jacqueline Byers as FACS teacher, Cody Hopkins as an instructional assistant and assistant varsity football coach, Kathy Lovely as custodian, and Lindsay Hopkins as Title I instructional assistant.
The board approved the quotation from Ideal Pest Control for the 2010-11 school year, as presented.
Items for discussion included:
- Bus inspection. All buses passed inspection. Jeff Barngrover prepared the buses for inspection.
- NIPSCO is in the process of establishing more favorable rates for Wind Energy projects. Performance Services will present an update on the rate adjustments Aug. 9.
- The new information sign in front of the high school has been installed. An anonymous donor covered the entire cost of the project.
