Mellon shared the Nov. 30 cash balances with the board, as well as projected year end balances. The board approved a resolution allowing the necessary transfers so that all accounts have a zero or positive balance for the year of 2012, and also that funds are encumbered from the 2012 accounts for use in 2013.
The board voted to accept the bid from Midwest Transit Equipment for a 2013 IC/Collins, 72- passenger school bus for $83,383 and a 2013 Starcraft mini-bus for $40,594. Midwest will allow $5300 for a trade-in allowance for Bus 16 and $3100 for a mini-bus.
The board also voted to approve the 2013-14 school calendar, as presented.
The board accepted the resignations of administrative assistant Tony Brose and teacher Kathryn Deeds; and the retirement of Lavonne Pelsy from the Cooperative School Services.
The board approved the certified contracts for the 2012-13 school year for the Cooperative School Services employees, as presented.
Approval was given to the employment of Don Anderson as a job coach for Cooperative School Services, as presented.
Personal leave requests were approved, as presented, for Lori Skalon, Rebecca Reed and Hillary Durie.
The board looked at a sample of the Google Chromebook Notebook. Thirty are being purchased in order to begin teacher training in January.
Elementary school principal Dan Zylstra reported on a visit to the elementary school from Miss Pulaski County Stefanie McGovern to encourage the students to send Christmas cards to U.S. troops. He also reported the staff is beginning the reading book adoption process. He announced Donuts with Dad will be held Friday (Dec. 7), and the K-1 Christmas program will be Tuesday, Dec. 18.
Middle/high school principal Don Street reported that Mrs. Hart completed the book fair with a sales total of $3,825, which is $556 more than last year’s sales. Mrs. Hart used half of the amount in “scholarship dollars” which is used to purchase Scholastic items such as books.
Street announced that Freshman Orientation for this year's 8th graders will be at 6 p.m., Monday (Dec. 10). Scheduling for the 2013-14 school year has started.
The high school band will perform at Parkview Haven Friday, Dec. 14th during the school day. The middle and high school bands and choirs will hold their annual Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, in the gymnasium.
The board honored the following “students-of-the-month:” Xayla Findakly-Keys from the elementary level, Ethan Shannon from the middle school level and Kayla Garcia from the high school level.
The school board met in executive session before the regular board meeting to discuss a job performance evaluation of individual employees.
