The first note was discovered about mid-day Wednesday by a student who reported it to a school official, according to Superintendent Dr. Robert Klitzman. Following set procedures, the school was placed on lock-down and the students and staff were evacuated outdoors. As law enforcement officials searched the school and cleared areas, the students were returned to the building, first to the gym and then to the socialtorium.
Klitzman said the students were out of class for less than an hour during the incident.
The second note was discovered by a janitor in another restroom Wednesday evening. This time the police search was enhanced with the use of a police dog from White County. Following discussions involving law and school officials, and a morning faculty meeting, classes resumed on schedule Thursday. Principals spoke to the students to reassure them of their safety and to remind them of the serious consequences for such hoaxes.
Eastern Pulaski Schools were closed Friday and Monday for Fall Break.
The investigation continues, and school and police authorities note the prankster(s) will face severe punishment from the school and the legal system.
