In other business, administrative assistant Tony Brose shared a “preliminary accountability report card” on school performance with the board. He presented a chart showing the scoring process in determining the letter grade for the elementary school. Student performance on the ICLASS, IMAS and ISTEP are tabulated in the scoring but only the ISTEP is used when considering student growth. The student performance at the elementary is a D.
Middle/high school principal Don Street presented the middle school performance using the same scoring process as the elementary. The middle school letter grade is a C. The high school scored an A, based on the criteria of End of Course Assessment in Algebra I and 10th grade Language Arts, graduation rate and college and career readiness.
Also in other business, the board voted to adopt the 2013 budget for the General Fund, Capital Projects Plan and the Bus Replacement Plan, as presented.
Superintendent Charles Mellon went over highlights for the technology plan, as presented by Principal Street. The board then voted to approve the technology plan.
The board was informed that Title I Literacy Night will be Thursday, Oct. 11. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Thursday, Oct. 18 and Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Street reported that the high school play will be held on Oct. 6 and 7, the middle school Reality Store will be Oct. 12, the FFA breakfast will be Oct. 13, and the fall band and choir concert will be Oct. 15.
The board approved employment for the following individuals and positions:

3. Tyson Mellon – Varsity Asst/C Boys Basketball Coach
4. John Phillips – 7th Grade Boys Basketball Coach

6. Kenny Nielsen – Varsity/Middle School Wrestling Coach
7. Jason Wall – Varsity Assistant Wrestling Coach
The board approved conference attendance requests for the following:
1. Rob Evans – HECC State Conference in Indianapolis
2. Debbie Crosby and Cathy Risner – Gordon Food Service Show in Grand Rapids, Mich.
3. Debbie Crosby, Cathy Risner and Jessica Murray – ISNA State Conference in Fort Wayne
The board approved the following field trips, as presented:
1. Janet Kruger and members of FCA to attend the FCA Game Day in Indianapolis.
2. Janet Kruger and members of Student Council to attend the State Convention in Indianapolis.
The school board recognized “Students of the Month” as follows Parker Lewark and Noah DeMoss with (elementary school), Brecken Von Tobel and Brianna Messer (middle school), and Alivia Kruger and Mesha Masters (high school).
