The three top-ranked public high shcools in Indiana were West Lafayette High School (2), Carmel High School (3) and Munster High School (5). Signature School, a charter school in Evansville, was the state's top-ranked school, while Herron High School, a charter school in Indianapolis, finished fourth.
In other business, Superintendent Charles Mellon presented the current enrollment figures to the board that indicate a small amount of growth since the beginning of school. The board was reminded that Friday, Sept. 14 is the official count day.
Mellon shared his involvement with NIPSCO and PSI in determining a means to reconcile the net metering process, regarding the wind turbine plant.
School board president Jeff Tanner opened the hearing for the 2013 budget, capital projects plan, transportation plan and bus replacement plan. Mellon went over line items in the budget. Tanner asked for questions or comments; hearing none, the 2013 budget hearing was closed.
The board approved the 2012-2013 master contract as presented.
The board went over insurance quotes for the 2012-2013 school year, and voted to award the property and liability insurance renewal to EMC Insurance.

The board approved the maternity leave request from Joy Schlatter as presented.
Street went over the middle/high school improvement plan for the 2012-2013 school year. The board voted to approve it, as presented.
Under discussion items, Street reported that the 6th grade camping trip will be held on Monday
and Tuesday next week (Sept. 10-11). He extended congratulations to Chuck Evans for being named to the board of the IIAAA.
Elementary school principal Dan Zylstra went over the elementary school improvement plan, interventions and curriculum alignment. He also expressed thanks to Dr. Kim Moyer for donating her time for the kindergarten vision screening.
