Conner said the power outage likely occurred due to high demand on the system. Traffic lights were out in Winamac. Gayer said his department received no emergency calls during the outage.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m., Saturday, issued by the National Weather Service for Northern Indiana.
The hazardous weather will include high temperatures Saturday afternoon between 100 and 105 degrees, and near all time record highs.
Heat index values of 105 to 115 are expected Saturday afternoon as well. There will be little relief from the heat Friday night with heat index readings only falling into the upper 70s.
The Pulaski County Extension Office reports the oppressive heat has taken a heavy toll on the Pulaski County 4-H & Community fair this past week, for the 4-H'ers, the 4-H animals and fair goers and workers. Many activities were canceled or have been re-scheduled. The fair closed Friday night with the annual 4-H Livestock Auction, conducted in 100-degree heat.
