Once completed, the parkway project would provide recreational opportunities for walking, running, cycling, sightseeing or sharing company on a park bench. The Town of Winamac has submitted a request for $150,000 in funding from the Recreational Trails Program administered by IDNR, and an application for $250,000 in funding from the Safe Routes to School program administered by INDOT. The results of the application submission process should be made available by late summer.
The Steering Committee is working together with the Town Council, Park Advisory Board and Friends
of the Panhandle Pathway, using donated materials and volunteer labor to make progress on the Parkway. While the group pursues public and private grants, donations are needed for local matching grant funds to support the development and completion of the Parkway through Winamac.
