Winamac salutatorian is Tyler Dean Abbott, son of Dean and Kathy Abbott of Winamac. He will double major in international studies and political science at the University of Southern Indiana while participating in the honors program. West Central salutatorian is Laura Elizabeth Dewlen, daughter of Thomas and Linda Dewlen of Medaryville. She will attend Grace College at Winona Lake to major in elementary education.
Commencement exercises for the Class of 2012 at Winamac Community High School will be at 7 p.m., Friday, May 25, in the high school gymnasium.
Baccalaureate services for the Class of 2012 at West Central High school will begin at 2 p.m., Sunday, Mary 27; followed by commencement exercises in the high school gymnasium.
Jordan Morning's extra-curricular school activities included drama club, student council, Fellowship of Christian Students, football and basketball, choir, Midwest Conference Math Contest, World Language Quiz Bowl, National Honor Society and IMPACT.
His awards and honors have included outstanding sophomore drama award, most improved (Basketball), football academic All-Star, outstanding musical performance award and senior class president.
Marissa Bailey's extra-curricular school activities included Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, band, student council, cross country, track and First Christian Church youth group.
Her achievements and honors have included outstanding music award, letters in cross country and track, academic all-conference for cross country and track, Top Scholar award, Bausch & Lomb Science Award and DAR Good Citizenship award.
She plans to become a registered nurse and to specialize in obstetrics. Her hobbies and interests include running, sleeping, eating, texting and hanging out with her friends.
Tyler Abbott's extra-curricular school activities included National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Students, concert band, pep band, jazz band, choir, drama, Midwest Conference Math, Spanish Quiz Bowl and St. Luke's Lutheran Church Youth Group.
His awards and honors have included 2010 director's award for band, 2010 Richard G. Lugar Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders, 2011 outstanding junior drama award, 2011 outstanding junior band student award, 2011 Hoosier Boys' State Delegate, 2011 All-District Honor Band, four years Distinguished Honor Roll.
Laura Dewlen's extra-curricular school activities included FFA, Sunshine Society, yearbook, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 4-H, choir, band, National Honor Society, high school plays and church activities.
Her achievements and honors have included first-place finishes in the Midwest Conference Writing Contest in junior short story and senior exposition, gold medals for vocal solos in the ISSMA Solo/Ensemble Contest, Star Freehand award (FFA), first-place in prepared public speaking (FFA), and 4-H royalty court.
Her hobbies and interests include reading and photography.
