The board approved the following persons for employment as presented:
A. Stephanie Thilges – FACS Instructor
B. Bobby Quimpo – Chemistry/Physics Instructor
C. Michael McCarty – Temporary Contract during Megan Jungels maternity leave
Approval was given to the medical leave request from Cheryl Podell for the remainder of the current school year.
Approval was given to the request from Kasey Lowry to transfer from fifth grade to a special education position.
The board approved the request from Becky Reed and the eighth grade class to go to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, as presented.
Under discussion items, elmentary school principal Tony Brose announced that the elementary school will host the Pulaski County Spelling Bee on Tuesday (May 8) at 4 p.m. Eastern Pulaski Elementary will be bring 15 spellers to compete. WCES will also have five spellers from the third, fourth and fifth grades.
Middle/high school principal Don Street announced the following upcoming important dates; Prom is Saturday, May 12, NHS induction is at 6 p.m., Monday May 14, Senior Awards program is 7 p.m., Monday, May 14, 8th graders will have a science fair on Thursday, May 17 in the auxiliary gym, FFA Banquet is Friday, May 18, Band/Choral spring concert is Monday, May 21, last day for the students is Thursday, May 24th. Graduation exercises for the 44th graduating class of West Central will be Sunday, May 27 with Baccalaureate Service starting at 2 p.m., and Commencement following. The marching band is preparing for the Disney trip. They will leave Tuesday, May 29.
Superintendent Charles Mellon notified the board of improvements being made to the high school bleacher steps and adjustments to the health plans for next year.
STUDENT OF THE MONTH: Board member Kerry Miller presented Conner Lovely with a certificate honoring him as Student of the Month at the elementary school. Dean Lowry presented Avery Fritz with a certificate honoring her at the elementary school level. Zion Rodriguez from the elementary school, Alexis Beiswanger from the middle school and April Bloch from the high school were also honored but were unable to attend the meeting.
