The Nation's Largest Half-Marathon
Kenyan runner George Towett was the winner in the men's division of the Indy 500 Mini-Marathon, finishing with a time of 1:05:08. The win gives Kenyan runners titles in 16 of the last 17 races.
The fastest Hoosier male runner was Jesse Davis of Indianapolis who placed sixth with a time of 1:08:58.
Larisa Mikhaylova took first place in the women's division, with a winning time of 1:06:49. Erin Vergara (1:16:04) of Indianapolis and Laura Farley (1:17:01) of Carmel finished in third and fourth places, respectively.
Both Towett and Mikhaylova were first-time winners of the Indy 500 half-marathon. Last year Moroccan Ridouane Harroufi took the men’s race, winning in 1:02.45, while Everlyne Lagat of Kenya captured the women’s race with a time of 1:11:29, snapping the four-year win streak of fellow Kenyan Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, who took second.
This year's race was put under a yellow caution flag as temperatures and humidy began to rise at mid-morning.
