In other business Mellon reviewed the new guidelines for filing for school board election. With school board elections now held in November rather than during the primary in May, the filing period is now July 25 through Aug. 24.
The annual report for the corporation and high school was reviewed with the board. The board was made aware of some issues with the metal roof over the high school gymnasium.
Discussion took place concerning the IREAD 3 legislation and how the school corporation will address remediation locally.
Principal Don Street reported that the middle and senior high school parent/teacher conferences for third term will run from 3:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday (Feb. 9), from 3:30 to 6 p.m. The first "Parents as Partners" meeting will follow from 6 to 6:15 p.m. (Thursday, Feb. 9) for interested parents of middle and senior high school students.
The board was reminded that Friday, Feb. 10 is a full-day of teacher in-service for the staff. There will be no school for students that day.
Congratulations were extended to the wrestlers advancing to the individual IHSAA Regional on Saturday. The girls basketball team will play in the North White sectional on Tuesday.
Elementary school principal Tony Brose informed the board of the Parent Link “All Call” expanding district-wide beginning Feb. 1. The elementary annual report was shared with the board.
The board approved the early retirement request from middle school principal Kay Beasey, as presented. The board members expressed appreciation for her 24 years of service to the corporation.
The board approved the medical leave request from Bill Rowe from his bus driving position, as presented.
Conference requests were approved as follows
- Joanne Stevens, Linda Ferguson and the members of the BPA to attend the BPA State Leadership Conference in Indianapolis.
- Chuck Evans to attend the Indiana Athletic Directors Conference in Indianapolis.
The Board of Finance Committee of the West Central School Corporation met prior to the regular board meeting.
Officers elected were Gary Gudeman as president and Jeff Tanner as secretary. Pamela Ledford, treasurer, was designated as the investing officer.
The finance committee approved a motion to designate Lake City Bank, Medaryville Branch, and Alliance Bank, Francesville Branch as depositories for the year.
The committee also approved a motion to declare the listing of outstanding and unpaid checks from West Central High School, as presented, be canceled.
