Fred Zahrt and Nathan Origer presented a program on "Kit Houses" in Pulaski County. In his research, Zahrt has collected an impressive amount of documentation and photos on Kit Houses, including Sears, Aladdin and many similar "catalog" homes which were popular in the early 1900s. Origer's family built two Sears homes on their farm in rural North Judson in 1913 and 1940.
About 20 persons attended the program.
Directors of the Historical Society include Karen Fritz, Brian Ledley, Jane Rausch, Natalie Federer, Alex Haschell, Janet Onken, Mary Conner, Louise Gudas and Judy Heater. Past president Chris Smith is an ex-officio director.
Karen Fritz has been named the new Pulaski County Historian, succeeding Lynda Irving. The Indiana County Historian Program is jointly sponsored by the Indiana Historical Society, which also coordinates the program, and the Indiana Historical Bureau. County historians are appointed for three-year terms.
During the business meeting, brief discussions were held on two committee reports:
- Planning has begun for a "Phantom of the Vurpillat Opera House" event to be held on Halloween weekend 2012. Committee volunteers are needed.
- Judge Mike Shurn and Natalie Federer are starting a new Junior Historical Club that will focus on the U.S. Civil War.
